The Enugu State Independent Electoral
Commission, ENSIEC, Monday, announced that
it has cleared all candidates submitted to it by
the political parties in the State for the
forthcoming local government election in the
State.
The council polls, which will hold across the 17
council areas and 260 wards for the
chairmanship and councillorship positions,
respectively, has been scheduled for this
Saturday, November 4, 2017.
It could be re-called that the ENSIEC had earlier
disqualified some of the candidates for reasons
ranging from non-possession of tax clearance
certificate, non-possession of PVC to failure of
some of the candidates to attend screening
earlier organized by the commission.
However, in a terse statement signed by the
commission’s secretary, Mr. Tagbo Nnamah, he
said all the candidates submitted within the
stipulated time would be allowed to stand for
the election.
The statement read: “Following the meeting of
the commission with leaders of various political
parties in Enugu State, the commission has
resolved that every person who was selected
and presented by any political party and
considered fit to represent the party in the
forthcoming Local Government Elections is free
to stand for the said election without any
disqualification.
“In the light of this, all names submitted by
political parties on or before 26thOctober, 2017
and names sent for replacement in appropriate
cases are, therefore, valid and favourably
considered.
“Please accept the assurances of the
commission’s best regards.”
